What is a colonic irrigation?

A colon cleanse, also known as colon hydrotherapy or colonic irrigation, is the slow infusion of warm, filtered water which enters the large intestines through the use of disposable instruments. Each client has their own set of disposable instruments which are thrown away after the treatment. The therapist inserts a speculum 2–3 inches into the patient's rectum. Once the process begins, this method of cleaning out the bowels will also restore or improve regular bowel habits. Colonic irrigation also helps cleanse the body by quickly eliminating waste products which would usually remain stagnant. During the procedure, the colon therapist may opt to massage the abdominal area to stimulate the treatment.

How long does one colonic session take?

We offer 40 minute and 1 hour sessions. 40 minute sessions are enough time if you've had a recent one or are well acquainted with colonics. The one hour sessions are great if you are a new client, having bowel issues, or just haven't had one in a while.

Does a single colon cleanse empty the colon?

Almost never will 1 session empty your 5-foot colon. For most people, there is a considerable amount of impacted feces. When hardened or rubbery, it's called Mucoid Plaque, and it takes more than one colonic to remove. We encourage clients to follow up once a week for 4 weeks to start, then maintain monthly or every other month — just like haircuts and nail appointments.

What do I do to prepare for a colonic?

The day before, eat light — soups, salads, and smoothies are recommended. Stay clear of dairy, breads, pastas, and meat the day before and day of. Do NOT eat or drink 2 hours prior. You may opt to add an implant enema, infrared castor oil packing, or abdominal cupping before the session for an even more thorough experience.

What is the purpose of having a colonic?

Waste, toxins, gas, hardened feces, undigested food, parasites, bacteria, and Candida tend to infest the colon. These waste materials can ruin the colon's ability to absorb vitamins and nutrients and destroy peristalsis (the muscle contractions producing bowel movements). Since the immune system is 70% based off the digestive tract, keeping the colon healthy is imperative for overall health.

Do colonics rid the body of intestinal flora?

When waste is removed, intestinal flora actually increases. Good bacteria can only reproduce in a clean, healthy environment. A newborn baby has the cleanest intestines, which is why they immediately begin to produce intestinal flora. You can also take probiotics after or during your colonic for additional benefit.

What is acidophilus / probiotics injection?

Acidophilus (probiotics) helps protect the body against harmful bacteria, parasites, and other organisms. It plays an important role in digestion and bolsters the immune system. We offer injections of probiotics into the water during your colonic session to increase gut health tremendously.

Will a colonic help me lose weight?

Most people see anywhere from 1 to 5 pounds drop after a colonic — this is waste and water, not body fat. Where colonics really shine is with less bloating, a flatter stomach, better digestion, and feeling lighter and less sluggish. Combined with proper diet and exercise, it may facilitate weight loss.

Are colonics safe?

Yes, very safe. All equipment is state of the art and top of the line. Disposables are brand new to each client and discarded after each use. The pre-filtered, purified water is introduced at low gravitational pressure so there is no danger of bowel perforation. Unlike laxatives, colonic irrigation is not habit forming and improves colon muscle tone.

Are colonic irrigations messy?

Not in the least. There is no mess or odor, and all waste is carried out through an enclosed tube. A clear window allows you and the therapist to analyze waste — making for great conversation about what's going on in your body. All waste is piped directly into the plumbing.

Does colonic irrigation hurt?

The insertion of the speculum is quick and pain-free. You may feel slight discomfort or a crampy feeling at times, but it is infrequent and does not last for the duration of the treatment.

What is the difference between an enema and a colonic?

Enemas empty the lowest 8–12 inches of the colon using 1–2 pints of water. A colonic is a 40-minute session using approximately 15 gallons of water to gently flush the colon with massage tools. One colon irrigation is equivalent to thirty enemas! You can do both on the same day for an even more thorough detox.

Will I experience discomfort or fatigue after?

Most people don't. Many experience a boost of energy, a flattened stomach, and less bloat. Depending on the individual, it can stir up toxins causing minor nausea or fatigue. Rest, peppermint tea, and eating light for the day is recommended if needed. Most people return to work and continue a normal routine.

Can I work directly after a colonic?

Certainly. You can return to work just as you would after a regular bowel movement.

Will a colonic make me constipated or give me diarrhea?

90% of clients are completely fine. The most frequent post-colonic experience is a slight delay in the next bowel movement and then a larger, easier stool. If the colon is weak, there may be no movement for several days — this indicates the colon needs strengthening and follow-up sessions. Most people see improved bowel movements after a series.

Can I get a colonic during my menstrual period?

Yes! Many women report additional benefits during this time as pressure and bloating are relieved. You are completely covered during your session. Since your body is in detox mode anyway, it's a great time to cleanse your gut.

What are contraindications for colonic irrigation?

If you suffer from diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or have had previous colon surgery, you'll need clearance from your doctor. For diverticulitis and ulcerative colitis, colonics can only be performed when there is no inflammation.

What colonic system do you use?

We use a closed system colonic irrigation machine with all disposable equipment.

What is the difference between a closed and open colonic?

Our office strongly favors a closed system for superior sanitation. A closed system doesn't require pushing — it fills the colon with filtered water at low-pressure flow, stimulating natural peristalsis. There's no odor, disposable equipment ensures cleanliness, and water can flow further into the colon for better hydration compared to open systems.

Can colonics help remove parasites?

Colonics support parasite detox by helping eliminate waste more efficiently during a cleanse. While colonics don't directly kill parasites, they help flush the colon where waste and toxins collect. Our Take A Hike Parasite Detox Protocol combines supplements, lifestyle support, and colonics to create an environment where parasites don't thrive.

Can I get a colonic and enema on the same day?

Absolutely — it's the ultimate way to achieve a deep, thorough cleanse. The enema loosens older waste first, making it easier for the colonic to reach higher up in the colon. This combo helps improve digestion, reduce bloating, and leave you feeling lighter. We can customize with any enema implant of your choice.

What are the best treatments to add to my colonic?

The most popular combo is a Castor Oil Pack and Coffee Enema before the colonic. The castor oil pack with infrared lamp relaxes colon muscles, and the coffee enema releases the oldest waste. You can also add an ion foot detox or kidney lymphatic foot soak. Our Hydrafacial is also a popular add-on for the complete gut-to-skin connection treatment.

What are signs of a healthy colon?

Healthy individuals have bowel movements daily or several times a week. If you're having less than three per week, it may be time to detox. Watch for: hard stool, bloating, abdominal pain, lower back pain, feeling like your bowel isn't empty, or blood in stool.

Does insurance cover colonics?

Regrettably, it is not covered in the state of Florida as it's classified as an alternative natural treatment. However, certain insurance companies may offer reimbursement upon receipt submission. Check with your provider.

Will I see parasites? What will I pass?

Parasites are common, and many of us have them. They can be eliminated during colonic sessions. We provide an anti-parasite protocol to help eradicate and eliminate parasites, though it requires time and consistent effort. During a session, you might expel biofilm, fecal matter, toxins, candida, undigested food, gas, and more.
