Coffee Enemas: Benefits, How They Work, and Everything You Need to Know
Coffee enemas have gone from a niche detox ritual to one of the most searched gut-health treatments in Miami — and for good reason. Whether you’ve heard about them from a wellness coach, seen them mentioned in a detox protocol, or stumbled across them while researching liver support, you’re probably wondering: do they actually work, and are they safe?
At Feel The Heal, we’ve been offering professional coffee enema sessions and at-home enema support for years. Here’s everything you need to know — straight, no fluff.
What Is a Coffee Enema?
A coffee enema is a form of colon cleansing in which a solution of brewed, cooled organic coffee is introduced into the colon via the rectum and held for a short period before being released. Unlike drinking coffee, which passes through the digestive system, a coffee enema allows certain compounds in coffee — particularly caffeine and palmitic acid — to be absorbed directly through the colon wall into the portal vein, which leads directly to the liver.
This is what makes a coffee enema fundamentally different from a regular water enema: it’s primarily a liver detox tool, not just a colon flush.
What Are the Benefits of Coffee Enemas?
Coffee enemas have been used therapeutically for over a century — most notably as part of the Gerson Therapy protocol for chronic illness. Here’s what clients commonly experience:
- Liver stimulation and bile flow: Coffee compounds stimulate the liver to produce more bile, which helps flush stored toxins and waste from the liver and gallbladder.
- Increased glutathione production: Palmitic acid in coffee has been shown to increase glutathione S-transferase activity — one of the body’s most powerful antioxidant and detox enzymes — by up to 700%.
- Reduced bloating and gas: By flushing the lower colon, coffee enemas help relieve trapped gas, constipation, and the bloating that comes with sluggish digestion.
- Mental clarity and energy: Many clients report a noticeable lift in mental clarity and energy following a session — likely tied to the liver’s improved ability to filter the bloodstream.
- Parasite cleanse support: Coffee enemas are commonly used alongside parasite cleanse protocols to help expel what herbal treatments have loosened from the gut lining.
- Migraine and headache relief: Some clients find that regular coffee enemas reduce the frequency and intensity of tension headaches and migraines.
Professional Coffee Enema Sessions at Feel The Heal
For your first coffee enema — or if you want the deepest, most effective experience — an in-office session at Feel The Heal is the gold standard. Our professional coffee colonic combines the benefits of a standard colon hydrotherapy session with the liver-stimulating power of organic coffee solution — flushing both the colon and triggering a powerful hepatic detox response simultaneously.
You’ll be guided by a trained therapist in a private, spa-quality environment. We use only USDA-certified organic coffee — because the quality of the coffee matters enormously when it’s going into your body this way.

At-Home Coffee Enemas: What You Need
Many of our clients maintain a regular at-home coffee enema practice between their in-office visits. To do it safely and effectively, you need two things: the right equipment and the right coffee.
1. A Quality Enema Bag Kit
Do not use a cheap, disposable kit for coffee enemas — the quality of the bag and tubing matters for both safety and comfort. Our Reusable Enema Bag Kit (BPA-Free) is specifically designed for repeated home use. It’s made from medical-grade, BPA-free materials, easy to clean, and comes with everything you need to get started safely at home.
2. USDA-Certified Organic Enema Coffee
Regular grocery store coffee is NOT appropriate for enemas — it contains pesticide residues, mold, and chemical processing agents that you do not want introduced into your colon. Our Organic Enema Coffee (USDA Certified) is specifically sourced and roasted for therapeutic enema use — light roast, mold-free, and tested for purity. This is the same coffee we use in our in-office sessions.

How to Do a Coffee Enema at Home (Step-by-Step)
- Brew the coffee: Use 2–3 tablespoons of our organic enema coffee in 4 cups of filtered water. Brew, then let cool completely to body temperature (never use hot coffee — test on your wrist).
- Prepare your kit: Fill your BPA-free enema bag with the cooled coffee solution. Hang it about 18–24 inches above where you’ll be lying.
- Position yourself: Lie on your right side on a comfortable surface (a yoga mat on the bathroom floor works well). This position helps the coffee reach the ascending colon and portal vein area most effectively.
- Administer slowly: Insert the lubricated tip gently and allow the solution to flow in slowly. Stop if you feel any discomfort.
- Hold for 12–15 minutes: This is the key step — the hold time is what allows the coffee compounds to be absorbed into the portal vein and reach the liver. Breathe slowly and relax.
- Release and rest: Use the toilet, then rest for 20–30 minutes. Drink plenty of water and eat lightly for the rest of the day.
First time? We strongly recommend your first session be done in-office with one of our therapists so you know exactly what to expect before going solo at home.
Coffee Enemas and Parasite Cleansing
If you’re currently doing a parasite cleanse — whether with our Take A Hike Parasite Protocol or another herbal program — adding coffee enemas to your protocol is one of the most powerful things you can do to accelerate results. Antiparasitic herbs break down biofilm and loosen parasites from the gut wall. A coffee enema physically flushes them out and simultaneously detoxifies the liver of the endotoxins released during die-off — helping to minimize the dreaded “healing crisis” symptoms like fatigue, headaches, and brain fog.
Frequently Asked Questions About Coffee Enemas
Is a coffee enema safe?
For most healthy adults, yes — when done correctly, with the right equipment and properly sourced coffee. Coffee enemas are not recommended during pregnancy, for people with active inflammatory bowel disease, recent bowel surgery, severe hemorrhoids, or heart/kidney conditions. When in doubt, consult your physician first.
How often should I do a coffee enema?
This varies by individual and goal. During an active detox or parasite cleanse, some protocols call for daily sessions for a short period. For general maintenance, most clients do 1–4 sessions per month. We’ll help you find the right frequency based on your goals during your first in-office visit.
Will it hurt?
It should not be painful. You may feel pressure, fullness, or mild cramping — especially on your first session. These sensations are normal and typically pass quickly. Our therapists work slowly and at your comfort level.
What’s the difference between a coffee enema and a regular colonic?
A regular colon hydrotherapy session uses purified water to flush the entire large intestine and focuses on waste removal and colon health. A coffee enema uses a smaller volume of liquid, is held in place, and is primarily aimed at liver detoxification via the portal vein. Both are valuable — and combining them in a professional coffee colonic session gives you the benefits of both simultaneously.
Can I use regular coffee from the grocery store?
We strongly advise against it. Conventional coffee is heavily sprayed with pesticides and may contain mycotoxins (mold). For an enema, where compounds are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, coffee quality is critical. Always use certified organic enema coffee like ours.
